Guinness World Records

Yesterday while browsing through digg.com, I came across an article titled “10 Frothy Facts about Guinness, St. Patrick’s Favorite Beer“.  Since I’ve taken a liking to Guinness lately, I thought I’d take a look.  It was fact #6 that through me for a loop.

What!?  Guinness World Records (formerly The Guinness Book of Records) is named after Guinness beer?  How did I not know this?

A little more digging around reveals that it all got started by some big-wig at Guinness who got in an argument over what’s the fastest bird.  No word on whether he won the argument.

Strikes for Cancer 2010

For the second year in a row, St. Albert Bowling Centre is hosting a fundraiser for cancer research.  Last year they raised over $7000.00 for the Canadian Cancer Society!

I was asked again this year if I would help them design a poster for the event.  I came up with two ideas.  The first one I created started with the hardwood of a bowling alley.  I put nice big text overtop that was simple and easy to read.  Added a little flair with the use of some star shapes and voila.

For the second poster, I was inspired by some old boxing posters.  This design has a lot more detail, including worn paper background and lots of grunge overlays.

The organizers ended up picking the first design because of it’s simplicity and the ablilty to read it from a distance.
